Falafel Recipe | How to make Falafel | Homemade Falafel
Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern dish that has gained widespread popularity all around the world. Made with chickpeas, herbs, and spices, falafel is a delicious and healthy vegetarian snack that can be enjoyed on its own or as a filling for sandwiches and wraps. In this blog post, we'll share a simple and tasty falafel recipe that you can make at home.
Ingredients:
1 cup dried chickpeas
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp baking powder
4-6 tbsp all-purpose flour
Oil for frying
Instructions:
1. Soak the chickpeas in water overnight. Drain the water and rinse the chickpeas.
2. In a food processor, pulse the chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper until the mixture is finely chopped and well combined. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
3. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and add the baking powder and flour. Mix well until the mixture is sticky and can be formed into balls.
4. Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
5. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, form the chickpea mixture into small balls and gently drop them into the hot oil. Fry the falafel for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
6. Using a slotted spoon, remove the falafel from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain the excess oil.
7. Serve the falafel hot with your favorite sauce or dip, such as hummus or tzatziki.
Tips:
a. You can also bake the falafel instead of frying them. Preheat the oven to 375°F and place the falafel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
b. Be sure to use dried chickpeas instead of canned ones. The texture of the falafel will be much better with dried chickpeas.
c. Don't over-process the chickpea mixture in the food processor. The mixture should be coarse, not smooth.
d. Add more flour to the mixture if it is too wet and difficult to form into balls.
